MetaCreations Painter Classic (tm)
-----------------------------
Thank you for trying the Painter Classic demo CD! This
demo version contains all the great Natural-Media features
of the full product. However, when using the demo version
you will not be able to save or print your artwork.
In addition, the full retail version includes hundreds of
pieces of additional content in the form of photos,
brushes, paper textures, nozzles, color blendings, lighting
and patterns.
We have created an electronic version (Acrobat PDF) of the
step-by-step Tutorial Guide. We strongly suggest you print
this guide and work through the step by step lessons. They
will provide a good overview of the program. Please note
that when working through the Tutorial, you will not be
able to save your artwork.

UNDERSTANDING PAINTER CLASSIC
-------------------------------
PAINTER CLASSIC'S INTERFACE
Painter Classic's interface is organized across a series
of main menus and a set of floating palettes. There are
four main floating palettes: the Tools palette, Brushes
palette, Art Materials palette and Controls palette.
Utilize the User Guide and take the time to explore what
each of these palettes can do.
PAINTER CLASSIC'S BRUSHES
It is the incredible Natural-Media(r) brush engine that
separates the Painter family of products from all other
graphics programs. If you spend a little time investigating
how the brush engine works, Painter Classic will open up
as the most incredible art program you have ever used.
SEAMLESS TILING
Seamless tiling makes Web projects a snap with an easy star
switch right on the document window. You can utilize an
existing image or develop your own within a small area,
then repeat it perfectly over the entire Web page.
IMAGE HOSES AND CLONING
The image hose paints with a variety of changing images.
Experiment with the images and thevariations you can use.
NOZZLES
The Image Hose Nozzles work differently with different variants.
Experiment to see the effects.
TEAR-OFF TOOLS
Don't overlook the new Tear-off Tools. Grab any brush
(like the Pencil) and drag it off the palette. Presto.
You've created a custom palette. You can drag any
of the tools onto a custom palette.
SCRIPTING
Scripts allow you to record every action you make in Painter
Classic. Scripts are similar to video tape. You can record
and play them back at any time from the Script palette.
The recording process is simply a matter of clicking record,
then Stop and then naming the script. When you're done, the
script appears in the palette.
To erase a script, select delete from the pop-up menu at the
bottom of the palette. Select the script you want deleted and
click delete.

COMMON PROBLEMS & SOLUTIONS
----------------------------
- Painter Classic only supports the Photoshop 3.0 plug-in API
(not 4.0). Plug-ins, like Alien Skin Eye Candy, which
require the Photoshop 4.0 filter API will not work
with Painter.
- Several Adobe Photoshop 4.0 plug-ins are designed to work
only with Photoshop. They will appear in the Painter menus,
but will not run.
